ON COUNTRY LAND ACTIVITY

GURAMBAI TRAIL &
CROCODYLUS PARK

Accessibility: This activity requires a moderate fitness level and ability to walk a trail that is unpaved.

Immerse yourself in a unique journey of collaboration and cultural exchange at the upcoming Larrakia on-country activities led by the renowned Larrakia Land & Sea Rangers. The first adventure starts at the Darwin Airport Resort which offers a rare opportunity to showcase federal agencies, private businesses and indigenous organisations uniting and forging partnerships.

Engage with the Larrakia Land & Sea Rangers along the Gurambai Trail, gaining insights into their rich cultural heritage and connection to the land. Explore indigenous-themed murals and artworks. Discover the innovative Indigenous Hotel Villa Naming Project and Indigenous Training Academy. 

The second adventure is Crocodylus Park, founded by biologist Professor Grahame Webb. Experience crocodile handling, meander along the crocodile boardwalk and learn about conservation efforts.

Accessibility: This activity requires a moderate fitness level and ability to board and disembark vessel.

Step aboard "Flatback" & "Olive Ridley", vessels named after two turtle species found in the NT, and journey with the Larrakia Land & Sea Rangers to uncover the treasures of Darwin Harbour! 

Embark on a journey to circumnavigate the edge of East Arm, the bustling industrial core of the harbour, venturing through Woods Inlet amidst mangroves, and inspecting the croc trap for a glimpse of these ancient predators. Experience the tranquillity of Mica Beach's shores before embarking on a thrilling dolphin spotting survey. Witness the vibrant activity of the harbour and marvel at the panoramic views of East Point.

Accessibility: This activity requires an advanced fitness level. This activity will involve a longer travel time resulting in a later return to Darwin.

Join the Larrakia Land & Sea Rangers and journey across Darwin Harbour by ferry to delve into the rich history of the Delissaville/Belyuen Aboriginal Community!

Experience an unforgettable tour of the community, witness vibrant cultural performances, and engage in educational school visits and presentations.

NATIVE BEES DEMONSTRATION

Join us for an interactive workshop hosted by Barry Conde, a renowned expert in meliponiculture (the cultivation of stingless bees). 

Delve into the fascinating world of native stingless bees along with the Larrakia Land & Sea Rangers. Explore the unique characteristics of the two indigenous 'sugarbag' bee species, discover specialized hive box designs tailored for native bee habitats, and learn effective colony management techniques. ANIMAL HANDLING

Accessibility: This is an accessible activity appropriate for all interested delegates.

Join the Larrakia Land & Sea Rangers at the Darwin Convention Centre for a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich heritage and culture of the Bininj people of West Arnhem and Kakadu. Participants will have the chance to get up close and personal with some of the top end animals while learning about their cultural significance. Hold and get a photo with your choice of animals, including;

BASKET WEAVING

Please note: The weaving workshops are open to women only. Please look at our 'Explore the Didgeridoo' workshop running simultaneously for men.

Join this weaving workshop and immerse yourself in traditional weaving and sustainable practices inspired by nature.

Learn about ancient weaving techniques, natural plants for dyeing fibers, and understand sustainability through cosmology design, guided by a generational tradition of passing knowledge.  

This workshop will empower Rangers to incorporate sustainable practices in their role as country custodians. The Larrakia Land and Sea Rangers are privileged to bring a Northeast Arnhem Land woman, honoured to live on Larrakia land, to provide delegates with this enriching experience.

This session celebrates culture and deep environmental knowledge.

Our experienced facilitator will guide you in mastering its fascinating noises and rhythms. This workshop offers an insightful look into the Aboriginal perspective on the Didgeridoo, traditionally considered man’s cultural business. 

Discover its significance in storytelling, ceremonies, the transmission of knowledge, and the meanings behind painting techniques.
